Emilie Autumn is hardly a household name. In spite of this, the self-proclaimed ‘Victoriandustrial’ musician has managed to find her fanbase online, and it’s nothing to scoff at. Over the past ten years, Emilie has been releasing singles and EPs to build her fanbase. Her first official release, Enchant, was in 2002/2003, but it wasn’t until she released Opheliac in 2006 that her momentum really began to grow.
In her music, Emilie tends to take on the persona of a girl living in the Victorian era to tell her stories. The songs are a fascinating mix: raw emotion, experimental, classic and modern. No matter what, it always manages to retain a haunting, ancient feel to it, meshing with the lyrics and her vocals in a way that seems shouldn’t be possible.
